Styles of Art

1. Impressionism

This is one of my favourite styles of art. Impressionism tries to create the feeling of a scene rather then producing it as it is. I feel like this style is not meant to look complete, like there is more to be added to the finished piece.

It started in the 19th century by artists around Paris. Images of suburban/country life outside Paris were fascinating to these artists, but the city of Pairs itself was artists main inspiration.
Water Lilies - Claude Monet

I adore the bright colours chosen, the brushstrokes really interest me and also i admire the way they capture the personality.

Claude Monet gives the perfect example of what impressionism is like. You can clearly see what the painting is thanks to the colours used, but also by the way he used the brush. The brushstrokes give it that water like effect.

2. Realism

This style of art i feel is much different to others, it looks at the world as it really is, the people in it and nothing mythological, fantasy. It revolted against romanticism. It's the way writers, musicians etc. though in the 19th century.
The Gleaners - Jean-Francois Millet

Artists and writers began exploring the everyday life of humans and examined what they do and how they do it.

On the right you can see a perfect example of realism from Jean-Francois Millet, my favourite realist artist. He captured the image so beautifully and made it come to life with some paints and a brush. It shows a good example of hard working people on just another day at the job. The amount of detail and time put into this is clear to see, I wouldn't have the patience for it.
